Defence Forces Visit in Preparation for the Centenary of 1916
Members of the Air Corps, representing the Irish Defence Forces, were welcomed to our school this morning by Sr Geraldine. We are preparing for the Centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising. The ceremony began with everyone signing 'Ireland's Call' and the National Anthem, Amhran na bhFiann. The Air Corps sergeant spoke about the purpose of their visit. Milena Galazka assisted in reading the 1916 Proclamation, which was first read on the steps of the GPO almost 100 years ago. Katelyn Hynes and TJ Dawson represented the school in accepting a new Irish flag and 1916 Activity Pack. We, as a school, will now write our own school proclamation. On Tuesday the 15th of March 2016 we will join with every other school in the country in raising the Irish Flag as part of the Centenary Celebrations.
